Supporting Behaviours and Guiding Them
Finding Triggers and Implementing Positive Strategies for Behaviour Guidance

This course is designed to support early childhood educators in understanding and managing children's behaviours in a way that fosters positive growth, emotional regulation, and social competence. Rooted in the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), the course explores how to identify triggers of challenging behaviors and provides educators with effective, evidence-based strategies for guiding and supporting children through these challenges.

Through this course, educators will learn how to recognize the underlying causes of behaviours, including emotional, social, and developmental factors. They will explore the importance of creating nurturing environments that promote positive behavior, while also empowering children to develop self-regulation and problem-solving skills. Educators will gain practical tools for using positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and calm responses to create a supportive atmosphere where all children feel safe, understood, and respected.

Key topics include:

  • Understanding the key principles of behavior in early childhood and their connection to EYLF and VEYLDF outcomes
  • Identifying the underlying triggers of challenging behaviours in young children
  • Developing strategies for positive behavior guidance and intervention
  • Using proactive approaches to prevent challenging behaviours before they arise
  • Building emotional regulation skills in children through modeling and support
  • Implementing strategies for creating an inclusive environment where all children feel valued
  • Engaging families in the process of supporting behavior and reinforcing strategies at home

By the end of this course, educators will be equipped with the tools to approach challenging behaviours with a calm, informed, and positive mindset, focusing on proactive strategies that promote long-term emotional and social development. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to support children’s emotional growth and guide them toward positive behaviours in line with the outcomes outlined in the EYLF and VEYLDF.
